Cynthia's sobriety coaching is a cutting-edge, empowering, goal oriented approach to help you achieve life-long and craving-free sobriety. Depending on the unique needs of each client and which stage of recovery you're working on it may consist of a large range of different focus areas.
It is a strictly confidential and personalized service, offered by telephone, Skype or email, to help you overcome your addiction and learn how to live alcohol and drug free.
As a trained mental health professional and a fellow alcoholic and drug addict with more than 24 years of uninterrupted and craving-free sobriety, I provide you with a combination of both professional and personal expertise, guidance, education and support. I will be your partner on your recovery path.
Sobriety coaching may consist of one of the following options or a combination of several, or all:
Get to the roots of alcoholism, or addiction of any kind, which is an imbalance or depletion of neurotransmitters in the brain. Learn how to restore balance to these neurotransmitters, heal addictive biochemistry and achieve craving-free, permanent sobriety from any addictive substance.
Learn how to use the biochemical approach for addiction (a successful and proven method of recovery based on science) to assist in detox, eliminate cravings, relieve anxiety, depression and other roller coaster emotions that may jeopardize your recovery and result in relapse.
Understanding the science of addiction and addictive biochemistry is crucial to the recovery process.
Although the word sobriety is often associated with alcoholism, I am using the term in a more broader sense to include abstinence from an addiction to any substance or activity. All addiction is rooted in disrupted brain chemistry and the basic principles of recovery are the same regardless of the substance or activity.
Cynthia's sobriety coaching services can be used for alcohol, benzodiazepines, stimulants, opioids, marijuana, nicotine, caffeine, sugar and carbs, food, compulsive overeating, sex, etc., etc. I personally overcame addiction to alcohol, benzodiazepines, cocaine, marijuana, anti-depressants, sugar, carbs, caffeine, nicotine and abusive men using the principles I share in my coaching program.
Diet and nutrition are the most critical factors for overcoming cravings for your substance of choice and prevention of relapse.
Learn the important role that diet and nutrition play in addiction to alcohol, drugs, food, sex, etc. and how simple changes in your diet can have a significant impact on your ability to stay clean and sober and the stability of your mental health.
Determine your individual body chemistry, identify possible metabolic disorders, nutritional deficiencies and food sensitivities that may hinder your success in sobriety.
Create a diet and nutritional plan to support the unique needs of your body and assist in biochemical repairs.
Develop a successful recovery plan that is unique to your individual needs that will aid in detox, stop the cravings for alcohol and/or drugs, and assist you in achieving and maintaining a life free of addiction.
The first few months of recovery are the most critical and difficult. Learning to live life again without the crutch of alcohol, or your substance of choice, is the biggest challenge and there may be a variety of factors that impact success.
Many people find it helpful to have someone to be accountable to. A sobriety coach can be that person as well as someone to remind you of where you've been, where you can end up and where you can go. It's healing and encouraging to share with someone who's been through your experience and survived.
Having a support system in early recovery is essential and I can help provide that support for you on many different levels.
Relapse can occur for a variety of reasons. The first and most important component is to correct biochemistry. We will make sure you have all the bases covered on the diet and nutritional aspect and make adjustments accordingly as you progress through recovery.
Once you have a solid foundation in the biochemical, there are many other secondary issues that can be potential dangers. Secondary issues may include too much time on your hands, unresolved feelings from childhood, relationship issues, hanging out with old friends or in old places, breaking old habits, etc.
If you've been an alcoholic or substance abuser for a good amount of time, there is a certain amount of learned behaviors and responses that need to be unlearned and replaced with healthier alternatives.
We will determine your specific triggers and develop safeguards to put in place. You'll learn how to avoid triggers when possible and face them successfully when it's not.
No one has the same exact path. Each person faces different and unique challenges.
Living with an alcoholic or an addict is challenging to say the least. Their condition affects the emotional, physical and spiritual health of everyone around them.
It's crucial that you understand the addiction and recovery process as well and take the necessary steps to heal yourself.
Get the emotional support you need.
Cynthia can help you learn how to take care of yourself and your family, set boundaries, and support the alcoholic or addict in your life without enabling them or losing your own sanity.
Furthermore, living with an alcoholic or addict can deplete the neurotransmitters of everyone in the household, because it is a high stress situation and emotional needs go unmet. Other family members would benefit from neurotransmitter support as well.
Additionally, it is difficult for the addict or alcoholic to make the necessary changes that support healthy brain chemistry if the entire household does not change as well. The recovery process works best when recovery is a family event.
Mental health professionals, health coaches, etc. can learn the roots of addiction and how to incorporate these principles into your practice and help your clients be more successful in recovery.
Traditional counseling is focused on diagnosis and treatment of pathology, while a sponsor aims to help you work the 12 steps. In sobriety coaching, the focus is on problem solving.
I'm not a medical doctor and I don't diagnose mental disorders. Coaching may incorporate certain aspects of counseling, such as exploring feelings and motivations, looking at the past and how it impacts the present, etc., but for the most part, it is solution focused and goal oriented.
If you're looking for a treatment center that offers successful treatment by correcting brain chemistry, I can refer you to the most appropriate source and then assist you through the process.
A sobriety coach is similar to a sports coach, in that I will provide instruction, direction, training and advice, with the goal of helping you to be the best you can be at your game. However, the game in this case is recovery, and instead of leading you down the field for a touchdown, our goal will be life-long and craving-free sobriety by restoring balance to brain chemistry.
It provides you with the best possible tools, skills, and means needed to win the game. We will work as a team to help you develop a successful recovery plan. However, just like in sports, it is still your responsibility to work hard and apply what you learn.
